Short Response #1 – Let’s talk about cohorts
I was born in the year 2002. Some important historical events that occurred around the time of my birth include the September 11th terrorist attacks in 2001 and the start of the War on Terror. These events may have affected my development in my earliest years by creating a sense of fear and uncertainty in the world, which could have influenced the way my parents raised me and the values they instilled in me. These events also shaped my cohort by instilling a heightened sense of security and awareness of global issues.
During my elementary school years, events such as the election of Barack Obama as the first African American president, the Great Recession of 2008, and advancements in technology like the rise of smartphones and social media had a significant impact on me and my classmates. These events may have influenced my cohort's development by shaping our political views, economic outlook, and technological literacy at a young age.
The events I remember from my childhood may have had a different effect on the development of people in cohorts different from my own. For example, older generations may have experienced events like the Cold War or the Civil Rights Movement, which would have shaped their perspectives and values differently. Younger generations may have grown up in a more technologically advanced world, with different social norms and cultural influences. These differences in experiences and historical contexts can lead to varying perspectives and attitudes among different cohorts.
