Derrick, a 13 year old, punches a fellow student in the face at school and breaks his nose. A teacher witnesses the incident and interferes before Derrick can get hit back. The
teacher tells Derrick she will call his parents and law enforcement. Derrick begs her not to call his parents because he "will get in really bad trouble at home." The teacher calls
law enforcement and they get a statement from the teacher and the alleged victim. The teacher then calls his parents and informs them of the
incident.
The next day, Derrick comes to school with visible bruises on his arms, legs, and
face. The same teacher asks what happened and Derrick
said that he got in trouble at home for
the incident at school. He said that his mother beat him and his father watched.
