This video was a really good recap of how and why our government works the way that it does. Although I have learned much of this material many decades ago, I did forget a large amount of how and why things have been set up to work together and against one another causing checks and balances. One of the examples used was the House and Senate and what they represent. I never considered that the Senate was set up to balance the power between states with 2 Senators per state and the Congress was set up to represent the population of each state by giving representatives based on the population of each state. Compromise was built into our government to allow both sides to work together and accomplish legislation for the people that each civil servant represented but unfortunately in today’s government, it is a continuous back and forth argument where nothing gets accomplished, and egos are the only thing being represented by those voted in. The story behind how Marshall how judicial review came to be, even though it is not in the constitution. I feel like this video was used to review how and why our government is set up but also to show the difference between how it is supposed to work and how poorly it is being run today by those who do nothing but argue for sound bites on their represented news network.
