Consider a Boeing aircraft taking off at sea level at flight conditions of 101.3 kPa, 25 °C with a
takeoff Mach number of 0.4 and extracting mass flow of air to the engine nacelle at the rate of 500
kg/s. Under such conditions and for the inlet Mach number at the diffuser inlet section not to exceed
0.8, determine:
a) Minimum inlet area of the diffuser to avoid engine choking,
b) Inlet area of the free stream tube,
c) Additive drag, and
d) Engine thrust for nacelle drag of 500 N and uninstalled thrust of 19000 N.
