This unfortunate 34-year-old woman was diagnosed 6 months ago with breast cancer. At the time of diagnosis, she was also found to have metastases to the bone and the liver. Her oncologist has recommended that she undergo intensive chemotherapy before she has surgery to remove her breast tumor and liver tumor. She is currently undergoing this chemotherapy on an outpatient basis. She presented to the hospital with extreme fatigue. She stated that she feels light-headed and just generally does not feel well. Her blood work revealed her to have a hematocrit of 27.5, and her anemia is apparently due to her neoplastic disease. She received four units of packed red blood cells, and her hematocrit improved. At the time of discharge, hematocrit is 32.3; and the patient is discharged in improved condition. She is to follow up with her oncologist to determine if she needs to start undergoing Epogen injections.
DISCHARGE DIAGNOSES: Hypothyroidism, Anemia in neoplastic disease, Carcinoma of the breast with metastasis to bone and liver.
