On the road of trials there is often a fellowship or a group of friends. Through the psychological lens, especially in Jungian terms, all of the diverse characters of the fellowship
• are demons sent to distract us from the holy quest
O are to all be killed by the hero so she or he can proceed to the goal unencumbered
• are merely incidental characters -- only the hero matters
O represent aspects of our own psyche, externalized and personified as the fellowship, to be ultimately reconciled into a state Jung calls "integration"
