Scenario
As a penetration tester at Security X, a leading cybersecurity firm based in California, you have been tasked with investigating a major data breach. The breach involved unauthorised access to a critical server, resulting in the compromise of sensitive information. The method of intrusion remains unknown. Your mission is to determine how the attacker gained access, identify the credentials used in the breach, and assess which resources on the target system were compromised.
The target machine is running with an IP address of 10.10.1.117. This experience will require you to perform network scanning, SMB enumeration, an exploit DB search, network analysis, plaintext password extraction from a PCAP file, and Mara CMS 7.5 Remote Code Execution (RCE).
