Joy is a line worker in the assembly department of MIM Manufacturing. He normally earns L$10 per hour, but gets time and a half for overtime, over 48 hours per week. He earns double time if he works holidays even if he has not worked 48 hours that week. Sometime the assembly line equipment goes down and Joy has to wait for the mechanics to repair the equipment or there is a scheduling mix-up. Joy is paid for this time and MIM considers this idle time.
In March 2022, Joy worked two 50 hour weeks, one 51 hour week, and the last week, he worked 49 hours, but one of those days was fast and Prayer day (Holiday). During regular hours, the assembly line equipment was down 4 hours in March.
