Law in the United States is created in many different ways. Five primary areas of law include Case Law, Statutory Law, Administrative Law, Constitutional Law and Common Law. To make matters even more confusing, there exists two distinct systems (Federal and State) of each of the above 5 primary areas of law. In order to begin to understand this dynamic, you are to locate an area of old Common Law and tell the class about what the history of the law as set forth in the 1700's and how the law is used in modern times. Attach a statute or case that's relevant to that area of Common Law. Then proceed to tell us if it is today a state or federal law. Finally tell us if you think it's of value and why.
