A 35 year old woman presented to the prenatal clinic after missing her last two menstrual cycles. Her home pregnancy test was positive and confirmed by ultrasound. It is estimated she is 10 weeks pregnant. An initial assessment of the woman’s medical history included the following: tobacco use (15 year, 1 pack per day), recently used cocaine, and denies alcohol use. Four years ago she had a spontaneous vaginal delivery at 35 weeks gestation, two years ago a c section at 36 weeks gestation for nonreassuring fetal heart tones. Her medical history includes chronic hypertension and controlled asthma. Her vital signs were: 98 F, RR 20 breaths per minute, HR 86 bpm, BP 142/79.
