Jordan Peele's Get Out is a film about performative 'woke'-ness while mistaking exploitation for appreciation. Protagonist Chris is caught in the crosshairs of a secret society's mission to 'blend' white and black people for the purposes of creating a perceived 'better', using black bodies for their 'physical advantages' while still promoting the idea that white brains/intellect are the more superior and advanced. Chris, his best friend Rod, and other black characters are the victims of micro-aggressions and unchecked privilege, proving as Peele intends that racism is akin to "othering" and still simmers beneath the surface in modern America. Through several dramatic elements and tactics, Peele is able to assess his theme in every line, action, and situation throughout Get Out, bringing more awareness to the layered issues with each rewatch.
