You are asked to design a mechanism to carry the object shown below through the three positions shown in their numbered order and return the object to the original position in one revolution of the input link. (Think of a windshield wiper mechanism.) Use the points C and D for your attachment points. All fixed pivots should be within the indicated area.
First design a four (4) bar to take the mechanism through the three positions. Then add a driver dyad to the mechanism (attach the dyad to link 2) to limit its motion to the range of positions shown, making the mechanism a six bar linkage. Determine the length of all links and specify the location of all fixed pivot points with respect to the base. Include the following drawings:
1) a drawing showing the method used to locate the two fixed pivots for the four-bar,
2) a drawing that shows the construction of the dyad driver,
3) a drawing showing the mechanism in the three positions, and
4) a drawing showing all dimensions: length of all links and the positions of the fixed pivot points with respect to the box for the fixed pivot points. You need this information for homework 3 to make a CAD model of the mechanism to create animation.
Use CAD for all drawings and label the moving and fixed pivot points clearly. Points will be taken off if drawings are not properly labeled.
