Good morning.
00:01
Today we are going to study about osmosis.
00:03
What is osmosis? what is osmosis is the process in which water is moving from a higher concentration to lower concentration across a semi -permeable membrane.
00:16
A semi -permeable membrane is one which is selective to the salutes.
00:21
In other words, the salute is not allowed to pass through the membrane, but only water.
00:27
And we can find two types of solutions.
00:30
They are hypertonic and hypotonic solution.
00:35
A hypertonic solution is one in which the salute concentration is more and so the water will move from outside to the inside of the container.
00:47
A hypotonic solution is one in which the salute concentration is less and so the water from outside, water from inside will move outside.
00:58
Now we have an experiment in which we are taking three dialysis bags and the dialysis bags are filled with 1 % sucrose and they are placed in three beakers a, b and c.
01:16
Beaker a has water which means it has 0 % sucrose.
01:23
Beaker b is filled with 1 % sucrose solution and b cub c is filled with 10 % sucrose solution and bcub c is filled with 10 % sucrose.
01:32
Solution now let's see the state of dialysis bag in each of these beakers the dialysis bag in beaker a is having only 1 % sucrose solution but the beaker has water so 0 % sucrose solution which means the concentration of salute inside the dialysis bag is more than the solution outside so it is said to be in hypertonic state in beaker b the dialysis bag has 1 % sucrose solution like that of the solution in the beaker so the concentration of salute is the same and so it is said to be in isotonic state in beaker c the salute concentration in dialysis bag is 1 % which is less salute concentration than the 10 % sucroseute concentration in the b and thus it is said to be in hypotonic state now we have different events given and we have to match each event to the beaker in which it can occur in the first event the dialysis bag size remains the same which means it will not change and that happens when the salt water does not move in or outside and it can happen when the solution is isotonic that is equal salute concentration and this seemed to be happening in beaker b the next event is dialysis bag swells so the dialysis bag swells when the water from outside moves inside the dialysis bag so the water will move inside the dialysis bag only when the beaker has a higher concentration of water and the dialysis bag has increased salute concentration and increased salute concentration means it is said to be hypertonic in state and that is found to be present in the beaker a where the water is having higher concentration and so it will move inside the dialysis bag with low a concentration of water.
04:05
The next event is the water moves outside the dialysis bag.
04:13
So and it will move out of the bag to the beaker and it will move out only when the water concentration is in other words the salute concentration is less which means the bag is having a hypotonic solution.
04:28
A hypotonic solution that is decreased a salute concentration in the bag is happening only in the beaker c because it has a higher concentration of 10 % sucrose in the beaker...
