Greetings.
00:02
Today we're looking at chapter 7 question 7, which is talking about plants, their environments, and how different plants survive in different environments, and the consequences of certain environments on certain types of plants.
00:18
Now, this question is looking at the consequences of having specific types of plants in hot, dry environments.
00:29
Now, when you think of a hot dry environment, you probably think of something like this.
00:33
This beautiful cactus here is a cam plant.
00:39
Cam plants are well adapted to hot dry environments and they do really well there.
00:46
Another type of plant that you might think of, something that you've seen growing in hot dry areas is something like this fabulous corn.
01:01
Now corn can also get away with living in these areas.
01:05
It's adapted for it.
01:06
It's not as good as the cactus, obviously, but it can do okay.
01:10
And it is what's known as a c4 plants.
01:14
The plant, this question is looking at is your common plants, plants that you can see almost anywhere.
01:22
They can grow, but they tend to struggle a little more in very hot, dry areas.
01:30
Things that you see, and then there are, are not going to usually do so great there.
01:35
And that's most of our plants.
01:36
And these are c3 plants.
01:41
Now, this question is specifically wondering the consequences of putting a c3 plant in an area that is hot and arid.
01:57
Now, if we're looking at our c3 plants, the first thing we want to think about before we delve into the question is what are our plants doing throughout the day that could be affected by this hot dry climate so our normal tasks our plants are carrying out is photosynthesis and to do this of course the plant is drawing in co2 and it's converting it to oxygen now for the process the full cycle of photosynthesis to run and go smoothly the plant needs to be be doing this continuously, which means the plant needs to have its pores open.
02:43
Because remember, plants don't have lungs.
02:47
They're not breathing.
02:48
They're not forcing air in and out to make this happen...
