9) A bucket full of water is to be drawn from a well. The full bucket weighs 20 lbs., while the rope attached to the bucket weighs 0.2 lbs./ft. What is the work done (in foot pounds) in raising the bucket 10 ft. to just clear the top of the well. Remark: You will do some work in hauling up the 10 ft. of rope as well as in hauling up the bucket. (a) 230 (b) 240 (c) 210 (d) 220 (e) 200

2) A heavy rope, 50 ft long, weighs 0.5 lb/ft and hangs over the edge of a building 120 ft high. (a) How much work is done (in ft-lb) in pulling the rope to the top of the building? work done = ( ) ft lb (b) How much work is done (in ft-lb) in pulling half the rope to the top of the building? work done= ( ) ft lb A bucket that weighs 4 lb and a rope of negligible weight are used to draw water from a well that is 80 ft deep. The bucket starts with 40 lb of water and is pulled up at a rate of 2 ft/s, but water leaks out of a hole in the bucket at a rate of 0.2 lb/s. Find the work done (in ft-lb) in pulling the bucket to the top of the well. work done = ( ) ft lb

An old country family uses a well as their primary water source. The bucket, when filled with water, is hand lifted by a rope from the bottom of the well to the surface. The well is 60 ft deep and the rope weighs 21 lb when extended to the bottom. The bucket weighs 70 lb when filled with water, but oh no! It leaks at a constant rate and only weighs 28 lb at the surface. Recall that water is 62.5 lb/ft^3. a) How much total work is done to lift the bucket to the surface? b) As the years pass, the family replaces the leaky bucket with a new one and has a mechanical winch installed to lift the bucket by a cable. The cable weighs 15 lb when extended to the bottom. Although the winch/cable method is far more effective, the family still keeps the rope installed as a backup. So, when the bucket is lifted to the surface, only the rope's lower end, still attached to the bucket, reaches the surface. Of course, the entire cable reaches the surface along with the still full bucket of water. How much total work is done to lift the bucket now?
