Gary is a 45-year-old male who works a "desk job" and is very time poor. As such, his daily physical activity has reduced considerably. Gary recently completed his yearly health check at his local GP, and he's now classified as overweight, and his blood glucose levels are modestly elevated, indicating a pre-diabetes state. In consultation with his GP, Gary has now undertaken an exercise program, which consists of cycling five days per week at a moderate intensity (~60% VO2 maximum) for 45 minutes to 1 hour per session. a) Outline the changes that would occur in Gary's muscles in response to a single exercise session and two months after the commencement of his training program. Focus on molecular adaptations, substrate storage, and metabolic capacities. b) With respect to substrate metabolism during exercise when comparing his first training session to his last training session (i.e., assuming he is riding at the same speed on exactly the same route).

Exercise: James has been gaining weight over the last five years in his group home and his doctor has said that he needs to exercise more or he will become obese. James is 62, a large man weighing around 200 pounds, who really doesn't want to be told that he needs to exercise for his health. When James first came to the group home he was much more active than currently. He would go for walks in Sunrise Park by himself when the weather was good and he seemed to enjoy that. He also bowled every week with the other men in the group home and was very good at it. A year later James climbed Mt. Clemons with one of the staff. Unfortunately, the staff person left his job at the group home about three months later and no one else was interested in taking him hiking. He worked out at the YMCA for a period of time but he didn't find other people to work out with him and he quit. We think that James started eating more food within the next year as he started to gain weight. What is the reason behind the weight gain according to you? Ans:- What are the behaviours that need to be changed? Ans :- What health promotion actions would help?

Keith is one of your distance runners. Last week, he ran 30 minutes at a heart rate of 150 bpm on four days. This week, he ran 60 minutes at a heart rate of 160 bpm on four days. What is wrong with his exercise plan progression? Check all that apply: - He increased his duration by more than 10% one week. - He increased both duration and intensity during the same week. - He shouldn't be running so much. - He needs to cross train. - He didn't increase his frequency. Question 20 While performing long duration continuous running, overstriding and severe lateral movement both impair: - Aerobic metabolism - Sweat rate - Exercise economy - Anaerobic metabolism
