Production of haploid sex cells During meiosis, the parent cell undergoes a sequence of two divisions referred to as meiosis I and meiosis II. Sperm production through this two-step sequence involves four rounds of cell division. During meiosis I, homologous chromosomes form a bond (synapse) with each other. At the completion of meiosis, two daughter cells are formed, each with half the number of chromosomes of the parental cell. During meiosis II, cell division follows the same pattern as that of mitotic cell division. Meiosis involves one round of DNA replication followed by two rounds of cell division.
