A KIA tube was inoculated with a bacterial isolate and incubated for 24 hours. At the end of incubation, the tube had a red slant and a yellow butt. What does this indicate about the biochemical properties of this bacterial species? Check all that apply. Check All That Apply Glucose was fermented Lactose was not fermented Hydrogen sulfide was produced Indole was produced Citrate was utilized

The question describes the results of a KIA (Kligler's Iron Agar) test after 24 hours of incubation. The key observation is a "red slant and a yellow butt." We need to determine what this result indicates about the biochemical properties of the bacterial species Show more…

You have an organism that is able to use glucose as its sole carbon source and produces 2,3-butanediol. It can also grow on citrate and produces tryptophanase. If you were to complete the IMViC test battery with this bacterium, what observations would you expect to see? Select all that apply: Yellow with the addition of Kovac's reagent to tryptophan broth, Red with the addition of Kovac's reagent to tryptophan broth, Yellow MR test, Red MR test, Yellow VP test, Red VP test, Green citrate slant, Blue citrate slant.

Look at this photo (incubation 37 degrees Celsius for 29 hours). The tube on the left is the control and the tube on the right has been inoculated with Bacterial species X456. What information can be gained about Bacterial species X456's metabolism? Choose all that apply: It can reduce sulfur. No fermentation of any sugar. It produces gas as a by product of fermentation. It ferments both glucose and lactose. It utilizes peptones. It ferments glucose only. The lac operon is off or it doesn't have one. It ferments lactose only. The lac operon is on.

Indole test from SIM: No red ring produced on top of media after adding Kovac reagent. H2S test from SIM: Black precipitate was produced after 48 hours of incubation. Phenol Red lactose test: The media turned yellow and bubbles were present in the Durham tube. Gram stain negative. Cell morphology: Rods. Facultative anaerobe. Believe it is not E. coli. It is Citrobacter (indole positive) and it's not Salmonella bacteria. Doesn't ferment lactose.
