What is a quantitative trait locus (QTL)? a region of a chromosome highly influenced by environmental (nongenetic) factors a set of genes that show a strong response to selection ) a specific gene known to control the expression of a phenotype a region of a chromosome that contains one or more genes contributing to a quantitative trait

An individual that is homozygous in genotype for a particular gene locus possesses two alleles that are identical in their DNA sequence and derived from the same ancestor.

A pair of matching chromosomes are called homologous chromosomes. The location of a single gene along a chromosome is its locus. The locations of multiple genes along a chromosome are loci. Different forms of genes are called alleles. If two alleles of a gene are identical, the individual is homozygous for that gene. If two alleles of a gene are different, the individual is heterozygous for that gene.
