If you drink a lot of water, you may produce large amounts of urine that has a light-yellow color. If you do not drink enough water, you may produce a small amount of urine that has a dark yellow color. How would you explain these observations? 2. Your patient reported pinkish and cloudy urine. What substance might cause her urine to be pink? What substance might cause her urine to be cloudy? 3. What two substances in the filtrate are essential and need to be completely reabsorbed?
Adi S.
If fluid intake is insufficient, there is less water in the filtrate moving through each nephron. In its attempt to maintain homeostasis, the body retains as much water as possible. Therefore, the filtrate has a lower water concentration and a lower solute concentration of urea and other wastes as it reaches the renal pelvis. As a result, darker and more concentrated urine is produced.
If you are dehydrated, or after heavy exercise, your urine dark in color and low in volume. Why this occurs. Include the relevant hormones. Also, after a heavy evening of drinking alcoholic beverages, why might your urine be light in color and large in volume, but yet you feel thirsty the next morning?
