The birth weight and length of most infants falls within a narrow range. If infants vary significantly from this range at birth, their chances of survival are much lower. Explain what stabilizing selection is and how this is an example of stabilizing selection. A group of finches with varied beak sizes and lengths move to a new island. The only food that is available on the island is small seeds and nectar from deep within flowers. The finches with small beaks can eat the small seeds, and the finches with long beaks can get nectar from deep within the flowers.
