A typical bacterial cell, Escherichia coli is
cylindrical in shape, with a diameter of 1 um (micrometers) and a
length of 2 um. Typical animal cells, such as a human liver cell,
are roughly spherical with a diameter of 20 um.
(a) Calculate the volume of each of the two cells listed above,
in um3.
(b) Estimate the number of E. coli bacteria
that could fit inside a human liver cell.
