A wooden artifact has 61.9% of the C-14 from a recently grown tree. How old is the artifact in years? The half-life of carbon-14 is 5730 years. Do not use scientific notation. The formula is: \[ N(t) = N_0 \left( \frac{1}{2} \right)^{\frac{t}{T_{1/2}}} \] Where: - \( N(t) \) is the remaining quantity of C-14. - \( N_0 \) is the initial quantity of C-14 (100% for a recently grown tree). - \( t \) is the time that has passed (the age of Show more…

A wooden artifact from an ancient tomb contains 20 percent of the carbon-14 that is present in living trees. How long ago was the artifact made? (The half-life of carbon-14 is 5730 years.) Round your answer to the nearest year. The artifact was made = years ago.

The half-life of Carbon-14 (C-14) is 5730 years. At your archaeological site, you have found a wooden artifact that may have come from a Native American civilization long ago. Initially, when the artifact was manufactured, it had 100% of its original C-14. 5730 years after that, only 50% of the C-14 remained. Today, after doing some measurements (you can visit Wikipedia Radio-Carbon Dating for some details), you find that only 29% of the original C-14 remains in the artifact. How old is the artifact?
