The Anolis Lizard Evolution Lab Report
INTRODUCTION
In this experiment, we studied the evolution of the Anolis lizards. Evolution is the change in genetic composition of populations over time (Congdon, 2018). Anolis lizards are textbook-studied organisms used when discussing evolution and ecology. The history of the anoles is very complex and consists of about 79 different types of extant species, along with newly discovered ones, which is why the Anolis lizard is very helpful when it comes down to comparative evolution. We also learned that Anolis lizards exhibit a complex suite of ecological and behavioral traits that allow them to adapt to particular habitats. Throughout this study, we examined the diversification among Anolis lizards and the characteristics they share. Every species obtained by the island inhabited different patterns of tail length, color, forelimbs, and hindlimbs. However, from observing phylogenetic trees and different types of habitats, we believe that in this experiment, we will see that those who live on different islands but share the same body shape and live in the same type of habitat are more closely related.
