All of the following statements about β-oxidation of fatty acids are correct EXCEPT: a. Fatty acids are broken down to acetyl CoA. b. The brain can use fatty acids as a fuel. c. It is an energy generation process in the mitochondria. d. Each round of β-oxidation produces one acetyl CoA, one NADH+H+, one FADH2, and a shortened fatty acyl CoA. e. Fatty acids must be activated to fatty acyl CoA before β-oxidation.

Which of the following is NOT true about beta-oxidation of fatty acids? Only even-chain fatty acids can be broken down via beta-oxidation. Beta-oxidation is active during fasting/starvation and during exercise. Beta-oxidation generates NADH and FADH2. Beta-oxidation generates acetyl CoA. Ketone bodies can be used by all tissues in the human body for energy. True False TAG incorporated into VLDL in the liver can come from which of the following? Select all that apply. Dietary cholesterol Beta-oxidation of fatty acids in the liver De novo synthesis of fatty acids Glycerol from lipolysis in adipose tissue

The ̠-oxidation of fatty acids requires Coenzyme A, FAD, and NAD+. Both A and C are correct. All of the above are correct. The product of the oxidation of odd-chain fatty acids is converted to succinyl-CoA. The options are Malonyl-CoA, Propionyl-CoA, Acetyl-CoA, and Oxaloacetate. The following reaction requires the presence of OH, CH, CoA, and ICOA. The options are Carnitine, CoASH, NAD+, FAD, and Water. Which of the following is not one of the ketone bodies?
Suman K.
Most fatty acids have an even number of carbons and, therefore, are completely metabolized to acetyl-CoA. A fatty acid with an odd number of carb is metabolized to acetyl-CoA and one equivalent of propionyl-CoA. The following two reactions convert propionyl-CoA into succinyl-CoA, a citric acid cycle intermediate, so it can be further metabolized. Each of the reactions requires a coenzyme. Identify the coenzyme for each step. From what vitamins are the coenzymes derived? (Hint: see Chapter 23.)
