So today we're going to be going over what would happen if we were unable to process an amino acid that was needed by our body.

So before i get into this, let me go and go through what an amino acid is.

So amino acids are going to be one of the base building blocks of not only the human body, but all living organisms.

They are the building blocks that compose proteins, and proteins are of vast importance to living organisms.

So, needless to say, if we can't produce them, there's going to be some issues.

So the first question i would ask when we're dealing with this question is, is the amino acid essential? oh, so i got an eraser.

So i'm not asking, is it important? all amino acids are important.

What i'm asking is, is it essential? and what i mean by essential is, is that is it important? or is the human body able to create it through a biosynthetic pathway? are we able to create this amino acid? if the answer is yes, then it's a non -essential amino acid, meaning that our body can produce it.

If the answer is no, then that means that it is an essential amino acid, meaning that our bodies cannot produce it, and it is essential that we eat proteins that contain it so that we can break down those proteins and use it.

I'm not sure if the last two amino acids that were discovered over the last couple of decades are essential, to be honest.

There's been two new amino acids discovered, one in like 2007 -ish one, just literally a few years ago.

But anyway, so is it essential? if it is essential, then that's going to be a little bit harder because that means that there's not as many biosynthetic pathways that can produce it.

Basically, all of the pathways are going to be breaking something down.

And those don't really tend to use that diverse of enzymes.

So if we have a dysregulation of those enzymes, that's where there's an issue.

If it's a non -essential amino acid and we're able to produce it, well, life will find a way potentially, and we might build a work around that particular breakdown of a pathway to find another pathway that can produce that amino acid.

But let's assume that no matter what, even if it is essential or non -essential, that we can't produce it.
