anning for the classroom is an important part of educating and behavior management. Proper classroom planning will keep you organized and on track while teaching, thus allowing you to teach more and manage less. Part of classroom planning is developing effective lesson plans. a. Why do the Hendrick and Weiss state in Chapter 11 suggest that planning is critical? b. Do you think there are preschools that don’t plan curriculum? Why would childcare staff not plan to know that it is critical? c. Describe your experience while you were going through school in terms of teachers being well planned, the curriculum being engaging and varied and developmentally appropriate. d. Can you tell if a teacher is well planned?

Hendrick and Weiss suggest that planning is critical because it provides a roadmap for instruction. It helps teachers to stay organized, manage their time effectively, and ensure that they are covering all necessary material. Planning also allows teachers to Show more…

EX: Pre-school To study the long-term effects of preschool programs for poor children, researchers designed an experiment. They recruited 123 children who had never attended preschool from low-income families in Michigan. Researchers randomly assigned 62 of the children to attend preschool (paid for by the study budget) and the other 61 to serve as a control group who would not go to preschool. One response variable of interest was the need for social services as adults. Over a 10-year period, 38 children in the preschool group and 49 in the control group have needed social services. Does this study provide convincing evidence that preschool reduces the later need for social services? Justify your answer.

The Perry Preschool Project was created in the early 1960 s by David Weikart in Ypsilanti, Michigan. In this project, 123 African American children were randomly assigned to one of two groups: One group enrolled in the Perry Preschool, and one group did not enroll. Follow-up studies were done for decades. One research question was whether attendance at preschool had an effect on high school graduation. The table shows whether the students graduated from regular high school or not and includes girls only (Schweinhart et al. 2005). $$\begin{array}{lcc}\hline & \text { Preschool } & \text { No Preschool } \\\hline \text { HS Grad } & 21 & 8 \\ \text { No HS Grad } & 4 & 17\end{array}$$ a. Find the percentages that graduated for both groups, and compare them descriptively. Does this suggest that preschool was associated with a higher graduation rate? b. Which of the conditions fail so that we cannot use a confidence interval for the difference between proportions?
The Perry Preschool Project data presented in exercise $10.39$ can be divided to see whether there are different effects for males and females. The table shows a summary of the data for males (Schweinhart et al. 2005 ). $$\begin{array}{lcc} & \text { Preschool } & \text { No Preschool } \\\text { HS Grad } & 16 & 21 \\\text { HS Grad No } & 16 & 18\end{array}$$ a. Find the graduation rate for males who went to preschool, and compare it with the graduation rate for males who did not go to preschool. b. Test the hypothesis that preschool and graduation are associated, using a significance level of $0.05$. c. Exercise $10.40$ showed an association between preschool and graduation for just the females in this study. Write a sentence or two giving your advice to parents with preschool-eligible children about whether attending preschool is good for their children's future academic success, based on this data set.
