A crime was committed at Luna State College this past year. An unknown individual stole a valuable gemstone from the Department of Natural Science rock collection. The culprit left behind his/her fingerprints on the floor tile where the gem was displayed. Hair samples were also recovered from the floor tile. The Luna State Campus Police have access to CODIS (Combined DNA Index System), a national DNA database of criminals, missing persons, and unidentified persons (operational since 1998).

You are tasked with designing an experiment to help the campus police. You must use current molecular biology techniques, such as the ones used in this laboratory exercise. In addition, you should include one of the traditional crime-solving methods, such as identifying fingerprints (see pictures below), to help you develop your experimental design.
