As CRISPR technology improves it may be possible to treat a variety of different genetic conditions in humans. Another possibility is that CRISPR will allow parents to alter genetic traits in embryos, curing diseases or even changing phenotypes before birth. Do you have any ethical concerns about the limits of this technology? Explain your reasoning in 5 or more complete sentences. Do the issues or concerns you expressed in your answer to the question above also apply to altering genetic traits in other organisms? Explain your reasoning in 3 or more complete sentences.

All of the following are potential limitations for using CRISPR gene-editing to treat disease in humans EXCEPT: If all cells in the individual have the gene edit, including the person's germ cells (egg or sperm cell precursors) then the edited DNA will be passed on to future generations. CRISPR-Cas9 can edit DNA at sites other than the intended target sites. When adding a new gene (or functional allele) to a cell's genome, the CRISPR-Cas9 can cut the DNA at the target site, but then the new gene may not get inserted correctly, leaving the DNA damaged (non-homologous end-joining). The alteration or addition of one gene may have unintended consequences for other genes.
