Question: Research suggests that the most frequent pattern of marital satisfaction is U-shaped, with marital satisfaction beginning to decline after marriage and falling to its lowest point following the birth of children. Marital satisfaction then begins to grow after children leave adolescence and reaches its highest point when kids leave home. Why do you think this is the case? Have you noticed such a pattern in your own marriage (if you have been married that long) or the marriages of people you know (i.e. parents, grandparents) who have been married for a long time? What may be some confounding variables in the research that may influence such findings and perhaps give us an incorrect picture of marital satisfaction?

At what age do you think adulthood begins ? Why? Do patterns of growing up differ for females and males ? Explain
Sri K.
A researcher is interested in studying changes in marital satisfaction over the course of marriage. She hypothesizes that marital satisfaction is highest when couples are newly married, that it decreases during the middle years of marriage, but rises again during later years of marriage. In order to test her hypothesis, she recruits fifty married couples within each of the following conditions: (1) married less than 10 years; (2) married 15-20 years; (3) married more than 25 years. All 150 couples (50 from each condition) complete a standardized measure of marital satisfaction
