Atlantic cod currently has a relatively small population in the Gulf of Maine. You learn that most populations would exhibit extremely slow growth rate when the population size is too small to grow efficiently and productively. We call such factors that regulate population growth at small population density/size as positive or negative density-dependent factors, also known as effects.
