BB is a 66-year-old Black female is admitted to the medical intensive care unit (ICU) with necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC). She has been NPO, has CVC line and mechanically ventilated for the past 7 days after surgical resection of part of large intestines. She is 5 feet 2 inches and weighs 192.2 lbs. BB has uncontrolled type 2 DM, rheumatoid arthritis, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia. The only home medication she takes consistently is prednisone as that helps her arthritis the most. BB has been unsuccessful with lifestyle modifications for these disease states.
