Below is a double stranded sequence of DNA found on chromosome 17 of the human genome. After analyzing the nucleotide sequences for potential open reading frames, you discover that the sequence consists of two overlapping genes. For each of these two genes, perform the following: 3’ CGC ATG ATA CGG CCA TAC CGC TAA TGC TAC GGG GGC CAT CAG TAG GCT5’ 5’ GCG TAC TAT GCC GGT ATG GCG ATT ACG ATG CCC CCG GTA GTC ATC CGA 3’ Step 1. Write down the appropriate mRNA which will encode for each protein. Include your 5’ and 3’ ends so that your mRNA has a “direction”. Step 2. Indicate what the amino acid sequence of the resulting proteins will be. Include your amino and carboxy termini as well. You can use the first 3 letters of the amino acid for simplicity.
