Blood agar
Incomplete hemolysis (α hemolysis)
Complete hemolysis (β hemolysis)
No hemolysis (Îł hemolysis)
Blood agar is an enriched medium that is differential for hemolysis. In complete, or beta-hemolysis, the area around the colonies changes to colorless. Hemolytic activity can be associated with non-virulence. Hemolysis is the lysis and digestion of red blood cells. In incomplete, or alpha-hemolysis, the area around the colonies changes to a green color.
