Browser Set as default Mc Graw Hill Recharge Multiple Choice Question What occurs during metaphase? Chromosomes line up in the middle of the cell. DNA is synthesized. Chromatin coils up into visible chromosomes, and the spindle forms. Centromeres separate and chromatids move to opposite ends of the cell. Need help? Review these concept resources.

METAPHASE: What happens to the chromosomes in this stage inside the cell? What is the imaginary line called that goes through the center of the cell? ANAPHASE: What happens to the chromosomes in this stage inside the cell? What role do microtubules play in this phase?

Mitosis Metaphase Telophase Sister chromatids line up in the center of the cell; microtubules attach to centromeres of homologous chromosomes. Cell cleaves, creating two daughter cells each with one set of sister chromatids. Anaphase Prophase DNA condenses into sister chromatids; nuclear envelope breaks down; centrioles move to poles. One set of sister chromatids arrives at each pole; new nuclear envelopes form. Go to the results table ONLY when you are satisfied with your answers. You will not be able to change your answers after this point. Microtubules shorten, separating the sister chromatids and pulling them to the poles; microtubules elongate the cell.
