Although personality is generally stable over time, changes in life circumstances can lead to personality changes. Experiences such as becoming a parent usually, over time, bring about increased conscientiousness and extraversion. But other changes, such as a gradual decrease in neuroticism, may simply be a function of growing maturity. Entering full-time employment can increase openness to new experiences, while losing a job can decrease extraversion.
