Chapter 4 – Social Structure and Social Interaction: Beginning on page 101 of the text, Social Status is addressed in terms of status sets, levels of status, and roles we play within each. For instance, you may be a brother or sister, a college student, and a volunteer for a local animal shelter caring for abandoned pets after the recent storms.
On page 115, role performance, conflict, and strain are discussed related to the statuses we hold in society. After reviewing this section, identify and discuss the following:
a) your "role performance/style",
b) what roles do you play,
c) what conflicts have you experienced, and
d) what, if any, "strain" do you experience within these roles.
