Edema, or swelling, often results from a disruption in the normally inwardly and outwardly directed pressures across a capillary wall. On the basis of what you know about fluid movement, explain the following: 1- Edema as a result of decreased plasma protein concentration 2- Edema as a result of increased capillary permeability to the point that plasma proteins leak into the interstitial spaces 3- Edema as a result of increased blood (hydrostatic) pressure within the capillaries
