Lymphatic tissues are aggregations of lymphocytes in the connective tissues of mucous membranes and various organs. Aggregated lymphoid nodules are the most prevalent lymphatic tissue in which the cells are scattered throughout the tissue. The thymus and intestinal nodules are specific lymphocyte clusters found in the ileum of the small intestine. Lymphatic nodules are dense masses of lymphocytes and macrophages that come and go as the body requires them. They are a relatively constant feature of the lymph nodes, tonsils, and appendix.

Column A 1. A blood reservoir 2. Monitor composition of lymph 3. Located between the lungs at the base of the throat 4. Collectively called MALT 5. Prevents bacteria from breaching the intestinal wall Column B A. Lymph nodes B. Peyer's patches C. Spleen D. Thymus E. Tonsils Add labels as necessary to identify the sites where the axillary, cervical, and inguinal lymph nodes would be located. Color the lymphoid organs as you like, and then shade in light green the portion of the body that is drained by the right lymphatic duct. Figure 12-2
