Cnidarians are the first animals with true __ , groups of similar cells that perform a specific function in the body. They Cnidarians have a __ system that consists of a __ __, the first and simplest neural mechanism to be seen among animals.

Cnidarians are evolutionarily ancient organisms that display symmetry. Cnidarians capture their food through stinging cells called , each of which have capsules called that are discharged when triggered. Cnidarians have a level of organization as they have two germ layers: the ectoderm and the endoderm. Cnidarians have two body types. A is tubular and has a mouth directed upward, while a contains jelly-like material and a mouth pointing downward.

Key: cnidocytes, gastrovascular, polyp, tentacles, medusa, marine, radial, hydrostatic. Cnidaria refers to harmful stinging cells located on which bring food to the mouth. Cnidocytes (cnido nettle & cyte cell) have nematocysts, powerful capsules with inverted coiled barbed threads that contain toxins which may even harm humans. Cnidarians have tissue layers: ectoderm and endoderm. Symmetry cavity for extracellular digestion & circulation and skeleton contractile ("muscle") fibers and nerve net (salt sea water) environments. Most cnidarians live in a tubular attached form or a bell-shaped free-floating form.
