Compare and contrast batch culture and continuous culture. culture is when nutrient consumption and toxic by-products eventually slow the growth rate until it halts together. In culture all the cells in a population achieve a steady state that analyzes different growth rates of microbial physiology; used nutrients and microbial waste are constantly replaced.

Step 1
The culture is allowed to grow until all the nutrients are consumed or waste products accumulate to toxic levels, leading to a halt in growth. Continuous culture, on the other hand, involves a continuous flow of fresh nutrients into the system and removal of waste Show more…

E. Phase-contrast 6. A mixed culture is: A. the same as a contaminated culture B. one that has been adequately stirred C. one that contains two or more known species D. a pond sample containing algae and protozoa 7. Microbiologists take bacterial cells and plate them on a medium in order to grow a mound of cells adequate for study. What is the proper term for a mound of cells that develops after plating the bacteria on a suitable medium? A. culture B. growth C. colony D. clump

Aseptic Techniques Your Results and Observations 1. Describe and draw the growth of your organisms on the nutrient agar slants; be sure to include the organisms' names. Organism Describe (and draw if needed) the form or margin of the growth (compare your growth to the diagram): Staphylococcus aureus Bacillus subtilis Mycobacterium tuberculosis Escherichia coli Micrococcus luteus Yeast Tumor Describe the form of growth observed in the tryptone broth tubes of your organisms
