Contraction of the urinary bladder is caused by stimulation of -beta 3 receptors -muscarinic -beta 2 receptors -alpha 1 receptors
Added by Brooke M.
Step 1
ACh binds to muscarinic receptors in the bladder wall, causing smooth muscle contraction and emptying of the bladder. However, the question asks about the stimulation of receptors that cause bladder contraction, not relaxation. Beta 3 receptors are actually Show more…

Contraction of which structure compresses the urinary bladder and expels its contents into the urethra? internal urethral sphincter trigone external urethral sphincter detrusor muscle
Adi S.
The bladder is a highly distensible organ the walls of which are comprised of irregular bands of smooth muscle collectively called the detrusor muscle and an interior surface lined with transitional epithelium- both of which are structurally suited for the inevitable large fluctuations of bladder volume. Micturition , the proper term for urination, occurs when stretch receptors in the bladder wall transmit nerve impulses to the spinal cord to generate a spinal reflex. An interplay of involuntary and voluntary actions by the internal and external urethral sphincters allow for control of this process. Use available models, the images supplied, your textbook, and/or your Practice Atlas for Anatomy and Physiology to identify the following structures. 1. Ureters 2. Detrusor muscle 3. Lumen 4. Transitional epithelium 5. Urethra 6. External urethral sphincter 7. Internal urethral sphincter
