During an inspiratory effort: - The intrapleural pressure increases. - The abdominal muscles contract. - The elastic recoil exceeds PLung. - The alveolar pressure drops below atmospheric pressure. - The external intercostal muscles relax.

Inspiration occurs when there is a negative lungs with respect to atmospheric pressure presol pressure is achieved when (a) intrapulmonary pressure is less than the pur pressure (b) intrapulmonary pressure is greater thanthe pressure (c) intrapulmonary pressure is equal to the pressure (d) intrapleural pressure becomes more than alveolar pressure.
During inspiration, intrapleural (pleural) pressure decreases. At the same time, the atmospheric pressure decreases. Therefore, the intrapulmonary (alveolar) pressure decreases. In contrast, it does not change during expiration. According to Boyle's Law, when volume decreases, pressure increases. Conversely, when volume increases, pressure decreases.
