Elephant females co-operate to raise the young, while the bulls do nothing to help. In humans the male does a lot of childcare while females other than the mother help less frequently. WHy might there be this difference between these two intelligent species, both with extended childhoods?
a.
Human males are more intelligent and realise the benefits of caring for their children
b.
Elephant males mate many females and don't know which are their own offspring, while humans are much more monogamous.
c.
Elephant females don't trust the bulls to look after the much smaller calves, while human males are more dextrous.
d.
There isn't much the elephant bulls could contribute to the calves, while human fathers have plenty to teach their children.
