Ca²⁺ induces a conformational change in troponin.* The sarcoplasmic reticulum releases Ca²⁺ into the cytosol. The myosin head releases ADP and Pᵢ, causing the thick filament to slide against the thin filament. The myosin head binds, forming a crossbridge, to the thin filament, using the energy from hydrolyzing its bound molecule of ATP. The crossbridge breaks: The myosin head binds ATP and releases itself from the thin filament.
