Example Sheet 2 - Bending Stresses in Beams
1. For the sections shown in Fig. 1, calculate the stresses caused by the bending moments applied about the centroidal Z-axis as follows: (a) 200 kNm sagging, (b) 300 kNm hogging, (c) 25 kNm sagging.
Draw the stress distribution across each section, indicating clearly the key values.
Note that these sections are identical to those in Question 3 of Example Sheet 1, so use the section properties from that sheet. All dimensions are in mm.
