What is the purpose of the results section in a scientific paper? To provide all of the raw data so that the reader can run their own statistical analysis. To provide objective analysis of data. To provide background on the big idea. To explain how the data relates to the big idea of the paper.

OBJECTIVE(S): State what the experiment(s) wants to accomplish. This should be a short sentence for each objective. DISCUSSION: Explain the experiment (don't describe it). Explain the material that the experiment is based upon and why the experiment was designed the way it was (i.e. explain the material behind the experiment, how the experiment accomplishes the objective(s) and what principles allowed for the objective(s) to be met). This should explain what data was needed to accomplish the objective(s) and why was it needed. Chemical and mathematical equations can be included if they are explained and/or help you to explain how the experiment accomplished the objective(s). [Note: If you mention steps it becomes Procedure; if you mention what you did (I/we = what you did) it becomes Data.]
