Hello students, in this question we will be talking about the steps involved in producing a human protein from bacteria and what is the advantage of using bacteria over human cells.
00:19
So first of all we identify the gene that is required for the or codes for the protein of our choice.
00:31
Now the gene once identified will be now extracted that is isolated and inserted into the bacterial plasmid.
00:54
Now plasmid is a small circular dna.
01:00
Now this dna can replicate independently of the bacterial chromosome and by inserting the human gene into the plasmid, we can use the bacteria to produce the human protein.
01:16
Now how does the plasmid take up this gene of our choice? it is by the process of transformation where the bacteria are treated with chemicals that make the cell wall more permeable and allow them to take in the plasmid into the cell.
01:42
So this is the step that is involved and the bacteria is grown into the culture media and once the protein is produced, protein is produced in enough concentration, it will be separated.
02:07
Now this protein will be harvested and purified from the bacteria and now this is ready to be used.
02:28
So now let us talk about the advantage of using bacterial cell over human cells...
