Thyroid (Tip: If you use the Parathyroid slide to also see the Thyroid, you can COMBINE these first two sketches into ONE, clearly labeled sketch. These two tissues are intimate neighbors in the body!):
A. Draw and clearly label a portion of the thyroid gland.
Label/indicate: at least 2 follicles, epithelial cells (follicular cells) that make up a single follicle (specify the TYPE of epithelial cell), colloid, and connective tissue (if seen).
B. For one epithelial cell (follicular cell) label the apical membrane region and basal membrane region.
c. Look for and label C cells (parafollicular cells). Even if you don't find any-
Q1: State the function of C cells- what hormone do they secrete, when do these cells secrete this hormone, and what does this hormone do?
D. Search and label any capillaries that you might find (Hint: look for small circular structures for the cross section of one of these tiny vessels)
Parathyroid
A. Draw and clearly label a portion of the thyroid gland that contains parathyroid tissue. In your sketch, label follicles of the thyroid tissue, and indicate parathyroid tissue.
Q2: What is the major endocrine cell here, in the parathyroid?
Q3: What hormone do these cells secrete and what is the function of this hormone?
Adrenal Glands
A. Draw and clearly label the cortex, medulla and capsule of the adrenal gland. Sketch and label the three regions of the adrenal cortex. For each region, note the class of hormones produced and released. Be sure to indicate total magnification of your sketch!

Pancreas
A. Draw and clearly label a portion of the pancreas. Indicate both exocrine and endocrine cells. Label a pancreatic acinar cell, and one pancreatic acinus (refer to your text if you need help).
B. Label an Islet of Langerhans (a pancreatic islet) (in this slide, islets tend to stain much lighter in color compared to acinar cells).
Q6: List the two cell types found in the islet that are critical for the regulation of blood glucose. For each cell type, list the hormone it releases.
