How do you figure out what micro-organism lives in this drop of water from the pond that you just put on the slide? The first step is to determine if it is a prokaryote or single/multicellular eukaryote.
Match the following descriptions to the group of organism and the examples it corresponds:
These are prokaryotes, a.k.a. bacteria!
Examples: stentor (trumpet shape), euglena, diatoms, green algae, oomycetes, cilliates
Gram positive or gram negative bacteria, sulfur bacteria, cyanobacteria
This is a multicellular microscopic eukaryote!
This is protist or unicellular eukaryote!
Examples: tardigrade, rotifers, hydras, gastrotrich
1. it moves around, it has arms and legs and inside structures (that are probably organs), maybe even eyes?
2. it moves around, but you can't see clearly defined structures and parts. You can see organelles though, and cillia or flagella, they can be green.
3. these are MUCH smaller, they look like static tiny dots (with some exceptions), can't see parts or inside organelles (because of their size and they don't have any)
